I have struggled to write something about myself and my art and if I were more articulate I would have studied Englsh not Art....so I borrow words.
The philosopher A C Grayling referred to the Arts as "trying to make sense of life" and "taking part in a conversation about it" I like that, and I want to share my enthusiasm for painting and drawing with others.
I love walking and have always loved landscape in all its wide variety; to see how light reveals the form of the land, its hills and hollows; feeling the movement, rythms and patterns of trees and water...I feel that I have not really looked at these images until I have drawn them.
I am fascinated by the power of colour to create images and space, as well as stirring our emotions. Painting with watercolour I am searching for a balance. I must be true to the image that made me want to put it on paper, while allowingthe paint to possess its own life, running wet and free to create something unique. I don't think I have acheived this yet, but I am always excited to begin a new picture...this might be the one.
