"My early work in the tradition of the 19th century watercolourists has slowly evolved over the years into a style which is in a precarious hinterland between topography and abstraction. I have been particularly influenced by early 20th century painting - Cezanne and the British Romantics, as well as artist/thinkers such as Klee, Kandinsky, David Jones and Barnett Newman. My work evokes often obliquely - the landscapes of France as well as Wales and is frequently described as surreal and dreamlike. A sense of place is vital, but these places are landscapes of the mind. "
